About Us:
Sentara Medical Group and Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) are expanding
our first-class, full-service academic plastic surgery program in Virginia
Beach and Norfolk, VA. Our program is primarily situated at Sentara Norfolk
General Hospital, a 525-bed, level one trauma center, and the main teaching
hospital for EVMS. Voted #1 Hospital in Virginia, our tertiary medical center
with all specialties represented serves a large patient population. The
Virginia Beach - Norfolk metropolitan area, the largest in Virginia, will
greatly benefit from our robust plastic surgery program.
Position Overview: We
are currently seeking a plastic surgeon to join our rapidly growing team of Plastic
and Reconstructive surgeons. The diverse case mix includes the full spectrum of
Hand and Peripheral Nerve
Surgery, including but not limited to upper and lower limb reconstruction,
elective adult and pediatric hand, and a spectrum of nerve surgeries in
children and adults. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in limb salvage and at least be eligible for
a Certificate of Added Qualification in hand. Sentara is committed to
creating a sustainable work-life balance for its surgeons. Joining our program
provides access to advanced practice providers, sufficient operative block
time, office space, and full-service clinical support.
Opportunities:
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a
premier plastic surgery training program. Opportunities extend to collaboration
with Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter for pediatric hand and nerve
surgeries, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Sentara Leigh Hospital, and
utilization of office-based operating rooms.
Academic Environment: Our integrated residency program is recently
approved to increase to two residents per year and is rapidly growing alongside
a large, multi-disciplinary team of surgeons that is also increasing. The EVMS
Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has six Sentara Medical Group
faculty, three faculty at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter, two
surgeons at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, and twelve community faculty who are
committed to the mission of clinical excellence, research, education, and
leadership/administration. Multiple faculty are former Presidents and Chairman
of leading national societies. Our mission is to deliver superior care,
train the next generation of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and perform
at a national level. EVMS has a rich history in Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery, and there are ample research and educational opportunities.
Collaboration with Operation Smile and Professors of Old Dominion University
enhances the academic environment. An academic appointment at EVMS will be
based on experience, education, and academic productivity. The position is
available for Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Leadership positions in
clinical, administrative, and academic domains are possible and will be based
on previous experience. A vision for forming a collaborative hand and
peripheral nerve program is encouraged. An interest in clinical research is preferred
and will be supported.
